My Thoughts (Spoilers)

This book was so much fun and I loved seeing the conversation of death and the importance around death. It speaks of the grief felt when someone you love passes and the growth coming from making through it.

Odessa, the protagonist, was such a wonderful protagonist. As a necromancer, and one of the few at that, we really got to see the meaning of life. The author did such a genius way of having death, when people die and got back, they can no longer have skin showing and because of that, it stops them from becoming monsters. And this really was a way to see the dangers of bringing the dead back and the morals going with that.

I thought it was such a time to see the story going with the idea of dealing with loss and letting go. Odessa deals with the lost of her love and best friend, so you get to see her try to recover from the lost and get back onto her feet. With her trying to find peace with friends and her found family and finding peace. And with Dead having to choose whether or not to stay. They chose to move on with their lives and I loved seeing the story of moving on.

I love seeing the illustration of bisexuality with Odessa. It wasn't a weird thing to see in the world, along with other sexualities. I loved seeing how the story had nothing to do with her moving on right away, and in the end, we only see the end of her just getting close and getting with someone else.

Also, her relationship with Jax and Simeon was very interesting. I loved the sibling/found family she had with Simeon. And how they were referring to each other as brother and sister and being so wonderful. Her and Jax having to use each other as a crutch to recover and it was just so human to see them do it.

“Learning is what makes things fun.”

“Those finished with life crave it less over time.”

“Why love hurts when it’s the thing we live for. The thing some people search their entire lives for. The thing some people die for.”
